Pricing and rules

Rankwar is a bidding war: every category has two rankings (people and companies) and your position is defined by how much you paid in total in that ranking. All prices are in USD.

How bidding works

• Your score in a ranking is the accumulated total you paid in that ranking.
• To overtake someone, your new total must be at least US$ 1 more than their price to overtake (usually, their total).
• You only pay the difference between your current total and the new total you choose.
• If the difference is less than US$ 3, you are charged US$ 3 and your total goes up by that amount.
• Ties: whoever reached that total first wins.
• If someone bids while you are paying, your payment is still recorded in full and you are placed wherever your total gets you. A confirmed payment is never lost.
• You can compete in as many categories as you want; each one has its own total.

Example

The #1 in Java has US$ 50 and you have US$ 20. To pass them you need a total of US$ 51: you pay US$ 31. If someone else then reaches US$ 52, they overtake you; to take back #1 you need US$ 53 and you pay US$ 3 (the minimum; your total becomes US$ 54).

Inactive rankings: the price drops

If a ranking goes 3 days without bids, the price to overtake each position drops 10% per day, down to a floor of 40% of that position's historical peak. The holder keeps their position and their total paid: it just becomes cheaper to challenge them. The next bid in the ranking stops the drop.

• Every bid is an individual payment in the secure Dodo Payments checkout. There is no balance, wallet or credits.

New categories

If your category does not exist, you can create it (we first suggest similar ones to avoid duplicates). It shows up on the home page once it has 3 participants.
